So that is the choice that we have been faced with this last week. The honest weather by far in recent years (Cue oldies going of on one about 1976), and for those not alive in 1976, the honest they have experienced in the UK. This heat has been much worse that that of1976, because we are stuck with the humidity. We definitely didn’t have that back then as we were in the middle of a drought which had actually started earlier in 1975. 1976 was a dry heat, which is way more bearable.

Anyway enough of the history lesson, the heat tied with the high humidity is a struggle for many people, especially the old, very young and vulnerable. Oh and lets not forget our four legged friends and other wild life. Interesting side note, I actually watched a bumble bee drinking from my bird bath, thats something I have never seen before, despite growing up in the country side.

So just when we are in desperate need to open our windows at night, to get what little cooling air exists, Hills do what they seem to be best at, release the stinky poisonous gas into the air! Thanks for that. Maybe they are trying to kill us all off, in a Bhopal kind of way!

But its not just us that have been been putting up with Stinks caused by Hills. They have been up to it in Westbury as well, they have been stinking the town out since 2014, and still they haven’t resolved those issues. Whilst we sometimes got the smell occasionally, We,have only been subjected to it on this regular occurrence since Feb of 2025 (16 months), so with their history at Westbury, we have a long way to go until its resolved!

On top of the Stink we have been subject to a number of fires, approximately every two years, but two in the last couple of weeks alone, but they always blame those on batteries.

It should be noted that the majority of waste that comes into the site for both landfill and for recycling via the Material Recovery Facility, is not waste from Wiltshire Homes. Much of it is industrial and commercial waste, and household waste from other authorites.

What we all need to do now, as well as keep reporting, is lobby or respective MP, weather its Sarah Gibson, or Brian Mathew (if you live in Calne South Ward), and call for the closure of this site and for the EA to actually do more, and not leave us to suffer for the 12 years like they have done for Westbury. I do seriously think that if it is allowed to remain as it is, we could be seeing some kind of mass poisoning event. Clearly there is something to hide as they are yet to publish any data on the accumulative effects of this known poison gas is having on us all.

Our only saving grace is that from Sunday the temperature is set to drop dramatically to something much more tollerable for the vulnerable.
