On the back of the Government recently announcing, that all filling stations, must now publish their fuel prices for use by third party apps, I thought it would be useful to resurrect a spreadsheet calculator that I created many years ago, to inform you how much of your hard-earned money you paid for your Petrol or Diesel, goes to the government in Tax!
The biggest scam being that you are charged Value Added Tax (VAT) on top of the Fuel Duty Tax that is charged, not just the fuel, and this has been going on for many decades. Remember you have already paid, Income Tax, National Insurance on this money, and then to pay Fuel Duty, but then to be charged VAT on the fuel duty, I think is an immoral scam. It’s called Value Added Tax after all, so should be on the value of the fuel and not be charged on the fuel duty as well.
