Lease signed and work to commence!
It was early September last year, that I first muted the question whether Calne would benefit from a banking hub and a few weeks later I then submitted the application. I found out that the application was successful in early December, it was a great early Christmas present for the people of Calne.
I was hopeful that with the number of empty retail units in the town, it would be a simple and quick process to find a suitable location for the Banking hub, and that it would be open within the first half of the new year. I could not have been more wrong. Little did I know that it would take another ten months to identify and secure a site.
After months of back and forth, Wiltshire Council and Cash Access UK have finally agreed the terms and conditions of a lease, and this was signed for the Baking Hub site, on Friday 27th September 2024. The Banking Hub will be on the site of the former Laundrette, adjacent to the Well Pharmacy.
Work should now commence on converting the building within the next week. In the meantime, Cash Access UK plan on holding a community drop-in session in relation to the Calne Banking Hub. When the time, date and location of that session is confirmed I will make it public.
